21 Things I Learnt in 21 Years

*TAKES DEEPEST BREATH EVER* I am 21. am 21. I am 21?!

How I made it through 21 years in this crazy world I do not know. All I do know is that it has been a very weird and wonderful journey, and that I have learnt a few things along the way. Conveniently… 21 things.

  1. There has to be bad to be good – So I got a tattoo when I was 17 on holiday in Malta with my friends (LOL) but I still love it. It’s a small Yin Yang sign to remind me that life is all about balance and that for us to recognise the good we must have some bad. It makes sense. So whenever I have a bad day I look at my ankle and anticipate the good that’s coming.
  2. Being healthy makes me happy – I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve realised my body is the only vessel I have to carry me through this life time and so I should be kind it. In return it has been kind to me.
  3. I am an outgoing introvert – I think this makes sense? I need alone time to recharge, but I enjoy people’s company. Once a week a day alone to myself helps keep me sane.
  4. “No one lives forever, but their good deeds do” – My amazing late grandma said this to me and its true. So be kind people!
  5. My music taste is VERY eclectic – I like all sorts of music from reggae to rock it really depends. I have my friends to thank for this.
  6. Everything happens for a reason – The break up I went through is proof of this. Without that crappy period in my life I would not be who I am today. So shout out to my ex!
  7. Making friends is easy – I used to worry so much about what people thought about me but even when in the Amazon rainforest, I can make friends. People should like you for you so stop acting different for others. By the end of the day you can’t make everyone like you and you will never like everyone you meet.
  8. Working in retail SUCKS – Most people do this at some point in their lives and honestly to those who work in retail full time WELL DONE. It’s hard. The (mostly) awful customers, the awful hours and the awful pay. It’s a wonder how I made it through 5 years of it.
  9. Traveling is the best kind of education – My trip to the Amazon was AMAZING. All of my trips away are to be honest. This is mainly because I learn so much on each trip I go on. It’s not about the tan or the instagramable pictures for me, it’s about the culture.
  10. The law of attraction works – For those of you who don’t know about this: watch or read The Secret. I will change your life. (P.S. I will write a post on this soon).
  11. My mum is amazing – She is my bestfriend, my rock, my world. As the years have gone on I’ve realised how lucky I am and despite not having a dad in my life I have never felt as though I was missing out.
  12. I can cook excellent paella – BBC Food recipe to thank.
  13. Working a 9 till 5 is hard – I’ve had an amazing experience on Psychology placement but the routine of waking  up, going to work, going to the gym, food and then bed is tiresome.
  14. I am a creative – I get very unhappy when I am not creating something so I have this outlet, I’ve learnt to crochet and I like to write the occasional short story.
  15. Festivals are cathartic – Secret Garden Party, Bennicassim, Boomtown. THANK YOU.
  16. Brighton is a great city – I have never once felt alone in Brighton. Despite being such a busy city there is still a great sense of community.
  17. I’m lucky to call London my home – I always took for granted being able to name what line every station was on but I’ve come to realise most people live in the middle of bloody nowhere.
  18. Being bilingual is cool AF – As a mixed-race individual I always though this was the norm but obviously not. I like being able to talk about people annoying me on the bus to my mum in Filipino mwahahah.
  19. I am a very nurturing person – A blessing and a curse. Some people don’t want to be looked after and I find it hard to accept.
  20. I’m an overthinker – Still learning to live with my anxious mind but I’m just lucky to be surrounded by people who understand me.
  21. I have a wonderful life – So thank you Universe for my 21 years and here’s to many more lessons to be learnt.
